How will you look after your roses this Valentine

And we’re back to the bench! After a lovely break over Christmas and new year making special memories with our families we’ve come back to the Floral Boutique in Ryde refreshed and ready to see what 2019 has in store.

January can be a nice quiet time in a florist, gradually getting back into the swing of things and making lots of exciting plans for the year ahead (as well as drinking copious amounts of tea to keep us warm!).

Next up on our calendar is St Valentine’s Day – a day to celebrate love and romance, a tradition of writing notes to the one you love. It’s a hectic time in our shop (as you can imagine) – lots of beautiful bouquets being collected and delivered Island wide. The most popular choice for Valentines by far is our dozen and half dozen red rose bouquets.

Many of you are interested to know which type of rose we stock and why. For the fourth year in a row we’ve chosen to offer a stunning long stemmed rose called Freedom. After so many compliments and great feedback from previous years it was a no brainer!

The roses are a rich pillarbox red with a large size flower head which opens beautifully once you get them home.

But Valentines doesn’t have to be just about red roses! This year we’ll be offering red tulips as an ‘anti-Valentines’ gift. With ever changing varieties of spring flowers arriving weekly in our shop it’s nice to see the season changing and warmer weather on the horizon. What better way to celebrate this than by creating beautiful bouquets of tulips with textured foliage and fillers all wrapped up – these will definitely bring a smile to the one you love!

A few tips to get the most out of your flowers:

– Remove flowers from all wrapping within 48 hours

– Fill vase with tepid water and add flower food provided

– Cut approximately 5 cm from the end of each stem, for best results cut stem at an angle

– Remove any foliage that will be below the water level

– Remove faded blooms or foliage as soon as possible to encourage buds to open

– Keep fresh flowers away from draft and extreme temperatures (don’t place near window sills or heating) – the cooler the room the longer they will last!

– Refresh water every few days as well as cutting the stems again
