In the realm of blossoms, one floral marvel reigns supreme: the peony. With its grand, opulent blooms and intoxicating fragrance, the peony stands as a majestic figure among flowers, captivating the hearts of brides and nature enthusiasts alike.
Found not only adorning wedding bouquets but also gracing gardens, homes, and parks, peonies make a striking impression wherever they grow. Their lush foliage and abundant flowers add a touch of elegance to any landscape, painting it with vibrant hues and delicate petals. On the Isle of Wight, where peonies thrive in the island's fertile soil and temperate climate, their presence is especially pronounced, enriching the island's natural beauty.
However, peonies are not confined to wedding bouquets alone; they are beloved by florists for their versatility and beauty. Often used on their own with just a touch of foliage, peonies bring a sense of luxury and charm to floral arrangements. Their captivating blooms make them a staple in bouquets, adding a romantic and elegant touch to any occasion. Here is a link to our own Peony Bouquet.
Last year the star of the show in our studio was Coral Charm peony, it was hugely popular with our customers. This year we have a particularly charming variety of peony in stock called Shirley Temple! It’s so delicate with soft powdery blush tones and many frilly petals. The perfect flower for a late spring/early summer wedding with its pale pink outer petals and delicate white inner layers (purity and innocence all rolled up in a flower head).
We love to share our top tips - providing support for cut peonies in a vase is crucial to prevent their weighty blooms from sagging and to uphold an appealing display. Opt for a vase with a slender neck, which effectively cradles the peony stems by keeping them tightly packed together. This narrow opening ensures stability and hinders the stems from splaying out excessively. Additionally, placing peonies in a vase filled with cold water, positioned away from direct sunlight or sources of heat, aids in preserving their freshness, while regular water changes thwart bacterial growth and extend their vase life.
In essence, peonies serve as a poignant reminder to savour life's simple pleasures, like the sight of a blooming flower. Whether adorning a wedding bouquet or gracing a floral arrangement on the Isle of Wight, peonies embody nature's gift to humanity, urging us to pause and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. As long as peonies continue to bloom, they will remain a timeless treasure, enriching our lives with their exquisite splendour.
